THE STORY OF COACHING BUSINESS UNIVERSITY
Designed for You
Katie Kanowsky and Donna Justice are successful coaches who know the struggle of getting a business off the ground and humming. After years of taking a marketing course here and a sales course there and a LOT of trial and error, Donna and Katie put their heads together to design a comprehensive coaching business course that covers all of the major areas coaches need to master in order to build, grow or rebrand their businesses from the inside out.
We offer an 8-month course in the fall and a one-day mini summer course.
Our eight-month series of courses and group coaching practicums are designed to provide both new and existing coaches with the questions, tools, strategies, and support you need to build a solid and sustainable foundation for your business.
Participants will leave the program with a plan that is based on their unique approach to their coaching business and with the knowledge and skills to grow and adapt their business over time.
The full program includes one live course per month and one group coaching practicum per month. In every course, you will be encouraged to share thoughts, ask questions, and get coached around the topic.
Each month our practicum will meet two weeks after the main course session. We will focus on getting a deeper understanding of the month's lesson and topics, with keen attention to how it specifically relates to your business. You will share questions, get coached as a group, and receive feedback. You will walk away with clear and strategic actions to take before the next session.
Full Course Details
Our full course program runs from October 2021 through May 2022. All courses and practicums run from 10:00 - Noon (PST).

CERTIFICATION, NOW WHAT?
Learn the benefits and disadvantages of ICF credentialing and how they relate to different coaching business structures. We will explore internal and external coaching models and help you find the best fit for you. Decide whether you want to earn a credential and begin to determine what coaching market best suits the business you envision.
WHAT'S YOUR WHY?
What brought you here matters. In this session, we will look at your why and tap into that passion. When your business is built on your inner why it will set a fire in your heart and get you out of bed in the morning. Having a company that drives itself is the first step in sustainability.
BUSINESS NUTS AND BOLTS
Now we're getting down to the structural and legal side of things. We will have a guest who specializes in legal and financial considerations, specifically for coaches. Is an LLC or S Corp right for you? What really needs to be in your contract and how does it differ when you are working with individuals vs. organizations? If you’ve had questions like these or anything else legal/financial this is where you can have your questions answered.
DEFINING YOUR NICHE AND SERVICES
As coaches, we can help almost anyone in any situation, but when it comes to marketing, specificity matters. You need to know who your ideal client is in order to find them. In this session, we will get clear about who your ideal client is, what they need, and how you can provide it. Taking into account your strengths and past experiences you will find your unique offerings and rates.
MARKETING YOUR BUSINESS AND ATTRACTING CLIENTS
There are so many things you can do to market your business and they all take time and creative energy. Taking a holistic approach, considering who you are and how you like to spend your time, you will create a strategic marketing plan that works for YOU. We discuss social media, blogs, websites, and much more, including how to leverage your personal and professional development to expand your network and attract new and aligned clients.
CLOSING THE SALE AND SERVING THE CLIENT
Your marketing is working, and you have a pool of potential clients. Now what? In this session, you will learn how to take a prospect and turn it into a paid contract. Selling a service that creates internal shifts and soft skills is a different ball game than one with a solid ROI. We will look at the nuances of selling personal and professional transformation. You will learn how to talk about your value proposition and rates and learn ways to help potential clients invest in themselves.
In this session, we will take everything you have created over the last 8 months to put it into a pretty package, aka a business plan. While you can create a business without a business plan, research shows that you are less likely to succeed to set specific and measurable goals and to reach them. So we are bringing in the experts. We will have a guest speaker to teach you the key elements and how the information will serve your business and create opportunities to receive financial support. Together you will begin writing your business plan with the guidance and support of mentors and peers.
WRAPPING IT ALL UP
Over the course of the program, you have created a solid foundation for your growing business. However, foundations aren’t very pretty. In our last session we will put everything together, polish it, and wrap it with a bow. You will be able to clearly articulate who you serve and what you offer in a way that is succinct and attractive to potential clients. You will design your next steps so that they optimize your strengths and style.
PRACTICUM AND GROUP COACHING SESSIONS
Each month our practicum will meet a week or two after the main course session. We will focus on getting a deeper understanding of the week's lesson and topics, with keen attention on how it specifically relates to your business. You will have the opportunity to ask questions and receive coaching. Ideally after each practicum, you will walk away with clear and strategic actions to take before the next session.
